Who We Are
Clinical Care That Puts You First
The Functional Care Clinic is a private practice offering musculoskeletal rehabilitation (MSK), sports therapy, massage, and women's wellness support across Flintshire, Chester, and the Wirral.
Every appointment is led by Nicola Clubbe BSc (Hons) MFHT — a qualified MSK Rehabilitation Practitioner & Sports Therapist with over 15 years of experience in clinical practice and NHS physiotherapy settings.
Every patient receives a thorough assessment, a clear explanation of what's happening in their body, and a plan that's built around their life — not a generic protocol.

My
Story

The Story Behind The Clinic
I've been working in healthcare for over 15 years — and the reason I do what I do is deeply personal.

My son was born with complex health needs due to a rare condition. In the early days, I was told he may never walk. I watched physiotherapy change the trajectory of his life — helping him learn to move, to breathe more effectively, and gradually build strength and independence. Today he's in the gym, taking care of his own health. Something that once felt so uncertain.
That journey showed me what the right rehabilitation and support can do for a person. It's why I get up and do this every day.

I began practising massage therapy in 2010 after studying complementary therapies at Coleg Cambria, alongside hands-on experience in clinical patient care. After living through my son's rehabilitation journey, my direction became clear.

I went on to complete my BSc (Hons) at Wrexham University, where I trained alongside physiotherapists and sports scientists with backgrounds in the NHS, Premier League football, and Team GB. I completed work experience with the Welsh Rugby Union Under 18s during my first year, and my degree covered biomechanics, gait analysis, pain science, nutrition, and the biopsychosocial model — all of which underpin how I work today.

Since 2015 I have worked within NHS physiotherapy departments across outpatient, community, and inpatient settings, developing strong clinical reasoning skills and managing a wide range of presentations from acute injuries to complex long-term conditions.

I am a member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists (MFHT) and practise in accordance with FHT and BASRAT professional standards.

What I believe in
I don't believe in quick fixes. I believe in understanding the root of the problem and addressing it properly — with honesty, clinical rigour, and a plan that works in real life.
My approach is evidence-based and person-centred. I take the time to listen, to assess properly, and to explain what's happening in a way that actually makes sense. Because when you understand your body, you're already halfway there.

What I'm passionate about
Musculoskeletal rehabilitation is at the heart of everything I do — helping people understand their pain, recover from injury, and build genuine confidence in their bodies again. I'm particularly passionate about supporting women through different life stages, helping people age well and stay strong, and guiding people from limitation back to capability.

A bit more about me
I'm also a mum of two, and that shapes everything about how I work. I know what it's like to juggle real life alongside health challenges. I know that appointments need to be practical, that advice needs to be realistic, and that feeling heard matters just as much as feeling better.

The Functional Care Clinic exists because accessible, high quality, genuinely caring rehabilitation shouldn't be hard to find or access.

I'm really glad you're here.

How
It
Works
Every new patient starts with an initial appointment — here's why.
Regardless of the treatment you're booking, every new patient at The Functional Care Clinic begins with an initial appointment. This applies to all treatments — MSK rehabilitation, sports therapy, sports and remedial massage, aromatherapy massage, Women's Wellness, and online rehabilitation.

This isn't just admin — it's clinical practice.

Your initial appointment gives me the time to understand you properly. Before any treatment takes place, I take a full health history, assess your presenting concern, identify any contraindications or precautions, and explain exactly what we have planned to do, together, to obtain your goals; ensuring they are SMART measured - and why.

This means your treatment is safe, appropriate, and actually targeted at what your body needs — not a generic session that could apply to anyone.
It also means I can identify anything that might need to be referred on or flagged to your GP before we proceed — protecting both you and your recovery.

Step 1 — Submit your booking request Choose your treatment and submit a request online. You won't be automatically confirmed — I review every booking first.

Step 2 — Complete your intake form Once your request is received you'll be sent a New Patient Intake Form. This covers your health history, medications, and anything relevant to your treatment. It's detailed — and deliberately so. You only ever complete it once.

Step 3 — Confirmation Once I've reviewed your form I'll confirm your appointment within 24 hours. If anything needs clarifying before we meet, I'll be in touch.

Step 4 — Your initial appointment Your first appointment is always 60 minutes. This includes a full consultation and your first treatment in the same session — so you leave having already started your journey, not just talked about it.

Step 5 — Your ongoing plan After your initial appointment, follow-up sessions are shorter, more focused, and built around your progress. You'll also receive a short health update form before each follow-up — just a few questions to keep your records current.
